Local Services
In April 1997 several pharmaceutical services were devolved to the local level for negotiation. The money for the provision of these services was removed from central control and allocated to Health Boards.
The services which are currently negotiated locally are:
Oxygen services
Supply of Methadone and Methadone supervision
Needle Exchange Schemes
Provision of advice to residential homes
Rota Services
Disposal of Waste Medicines
Each NHS Board is responsible for negotiating the level of service and payment for the provision of each of these services with its local Pharmacy Contractors' Committee.
In addition to these services there are opportunities to develop other services at the local level by obtaining funding from other local sources.
Such services currently include:
Palliative Care
Services for the Frail Elderly
Services for people with enduring mental illness
Nicotine Replacement Therapy
Emergency Hormonal Contraception
Anticoagulent/Warfarin Clinics
