Oxygen Shortage
Temporary arrangement

A temporary arrangement is in place whereby PSD will accept endorsements for portable CD (460l) and PD (300l) cylinders of oxygen when claimed against prescriptions for portable oxygen.  Please note that because these two types of cylinder are not in the Drug Tariff (and do not meet the current drug tariff specifications) prescriptions written specifically for them by name are not allowed.

Contractors will be reimbursed at the same rate as the DD cylinder.

For 1360litre cylinders, PSD will pay as before. i.e. For F and AF (BOC) cylinders and the Air Product equivalent, as well as the DF cylinder with integral head).

NHS Boards have also been asked to pay for the rental on the PD, CD, DD and DF cylinders.

In order to supply an oxygen service to NHS patients, a pharmacy contractor must apply to the NHS Board. Each NHS Board is charged with assessing the needs of its area and determining the level of provision required. The Board will therefore decide with the help of its Pharmacy Practice Committee whether to grant an oxygen contract to an applicant.... read more
