GPhC Consults on Draft Rules for Pharmacy

Five sets of draft rules for the pharmacy profession have been put out to consultation by the General Pharmaceutical Council.

The draft rules cover:

MLX 365 Public Consultation on detailed measures to strengthen the medicines supply chain and reduce the risk from counterfeit medicines

The MHRA is currently undertaking to consult on proposals to provide significant strengthening of controls over the movement of medicines throughout the supply chain.

Community Pharmacy Scotland takes the view that it should be possible for the NHS Board via its PPC to take a decision without the need to proceed to a full hearing, except in those areas where a service was previously provided by a dispensing doctor. Read More ...


Medicines Containing Pseudoephedrine and Ephedrine – Advice on the Introduction of New Control Measures

MHRA has announced that measures will be put in place as soon as possible to:

  • Restrict the total amount available per pack

  • Introduce a limit of one pack per sales transaction

  • Recommend to the pharmacy profession that personal sale of these OTC medicines by a pharmacist should occur

  • Run an awareness campaign for the pharmacy profession and other healthcare professionals

The Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) will set up an expert working group to advise on the practical aspects of the measures including detailed plans for the implementation of sales tracking of products and pharmacy recording of sales to customers.  Community Pharmacy Scotland will be monitoring the output from this group carefully.

Community Pharmacy Scotland has considered carefully both the evidence put forward in relation to the reports of the misuse of pseudoephedrine and ephedrine in the manufacture of methylamphetamine and the supplementary information subsequently published on the MHRA website. Read More ...
