
Scientists have announced the commercial development of a technology which they predict could have a dramatic impact on the control of bacteria infections like meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and other superbugs.
The announcement follows their discovery of how to take the anti-bacterial properties of bacteriophages — viruses which infect bacteria — and incorporate them into other products, such as wound care products.
The scientists from the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences have set up a commercial company Fixed Phage Ltd to develop their technology and its use in fighting infection.
