A DEMENTIA training scheme has been launched in Edinburgh for doctors and consultants.
NHS Lothian wants to improve the understanding among medics of the complex illness, especially when patients are being treated outwith specialist units.
It is thought up to a quarter of patients at acute hospitals like the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary happen to have dementia, a statistic that makes the workload of nurses, doctors and consultants even more complex.
Families have often complained it is a challenge the health board has failed to deal with properly.
