Older people find multicompartmental compliance aids (MCAs) easy to use, but they do not think the devices help them with compliance or stop them forgetting to take their medication, according to research published in the latest edition of Drugs & Aging (2011;28:403).
Healthcare professionals said they like MCAs because they are convenient and patients can use them easily, but only a minority believe they act as a memory aid, the study found.
The authors, from the School of Healthcare at the University of Leeds, say the study is the first to look into the attitudes and beliefs of older people who use MCAs, and to consider the views of healthcare professionals.
