Supply problems with Cerazette (desogestrel; Organon), Marvelon (desogestrel/ethinylestradiol; Organon) and Mercilon (desogestrel/ethinylestradiol; Organon) will return to normal in a few weeks’ time, according to a spokeswoman for the drugs’ manufacturer Merck, Sharp & Dohme.
Pharmacists have been on the receiving end of MSD’s manufacturing problems since November 2010 (PJ, 27 November 2010, p607). The company attributes the problems to its takeover of Schering Plough in November 2009.
