CPS Vision - Issue 20

Dear Member

Our focus of late has been on negotiations with the Scottish Government in an attempt to secure our contractors’ financial package for 2011/12 before parliament is dissolved in preparation for the May Scottish elections. By the time you receive this, you may well have read the outcome of these negotiations and a more detailed explanation will follow in due course.

CMS continues to progress with the number of patients registering increasing each day. CPS still believes that we must take time to make sure we implement this at a pace that contractors can manage and that the service delivers real measurable benefits to patients. The policy team expands on this in their CMS piece and we are still keen to receive your feedback using the details Elspeth and Malcolm have provided in their CMS section.

I would like to draw your attention to the regulatory sections of this issue that highlight the requirements for Pharmacy Technicians, the introduction of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme and the changes to the NHS Regulations brought about by a review of the control of entry requirements. These provide valuable background to recent developments.

I am looking forward to working with you over the coming months to keep Scottish Community Pharmacy practice the envy of many countries around the world.

Harry McQuillan
Chief Executive Officer
