GPhC Agrees New Standards For Pharmacy Education And Training

New standards for the initial education and training of pharmacists have been approved by the General Pharmaceutical Council.

In a meeting held yesterday (14 April 2011) in London, the council also agreed a new accreditation methodology for pharmacy courses in Great Britain.

Both documents have been amended to take account of responses given during public consultation, which closed in February 2011 (PJ, 6 November 2010, p499).

The accreditation methodology now includes clearer details of how regulatory “practice visits” of accredited institutions will work, and the council agreed to issue guidance to clarify further what the visits will entail.
