GPhC To Be Stricter About Renewal Deadline

Renewal deadlines for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council will be more strictly applied this year, chairman Bob Nicholls has said.

At the first council meeting of the year, held in London yesterday (13 January 2011), Mr Nicholls said the regulator took a pragmatic approach to the renewal deadline last year, in the interests of patient safety.

Although the legislative deadline was 30 November 2010, the GPhC continued to accept renewals until midnight on 17 December. Despite this extension, some registrants failed to renew in time and were removed from the register in January.
