The GPhC is set to ask pharmacists for their views on the CPD framework and educational standards, in two consultations due to launch at the beginning of November.
The consultation on educational standards is being held ahead of plans to introduce new educational standards for pharmacists in the 2011/12 academic year.
GPhC chief executive Duncan Rudkin told C+D the consultation would be aimed at students, recent students, employers and patients as well as the pharmacy schools.
Mr Rudkin said: “We are interested in what they feel in regard to the amount of science, and… the relationship between research and educational training."
The GPhC needed to decide how detailed the guidelines were going to be, he added.
Rudkin said: “We don’t want everyone to be tying themselves in knots if they want to innovate, especially in education.”
The consultation on the CPD framework and rules will point out that the structure of the draft rules has been changed to allow the registrar to impose remedial measures rather than remove pharmacists from the register if they do not meet the required standards.
