Health Minister Hails Staff as Flu Calls Soar to NHS 24

NHS 24

Health minister Nicola Sturgeon visited NHS 24’s Glasgow-based centre to thank staff for coping with a record number of calls over the festive season.

Of the service’s 500 staff, 137 are based in the Cardonald centre and have helped handle up to 130,000 enquiries Scotland-wide.

A total of 100,000 calls were expected over the two four-day Christmas and New Year periods alone with January 3 and 4 predicted to be the busiest days. Enquiries about flu have helped push the number of calls to new levels, with GP surgeries closed.
