Getting more medicines reclassified as over-the-counter products is the aim of a new Government workstream, pharmacy minister Earl Howe announced last week (16 June 2011) at the Proprietary Association of Great Britain’s annual conference.
Introducing the PAGB’s vision for self care, Earl Howe touched on the success of the recent switch of tamsulosin from a prescription-only medicine to a pharmacy medicine, saying: “Not only is [OTC availability of drugs] more convenient for the individual, it gives pharmacists the chance to look out for various ‘red flags’ that could indicate something far more malign.”
