Some 20,367 patients have already registered for the chronic medication service (CMS) in Scotland. Registrations have taken place at 1,109 community pharmacies.
From next year, pharmacists will be expected to provide a pharmaceutical assessment and care plan for these patients as part of the national service. They will also be expected to work with the patient’s GP in order to create a serial prescription for 24 or 48 weeks which can be dispensed at intervals decided by the GP.
