Reuse Returned Medicines, Nurses Say

Unused medicines returned to pharmacies should be repackaged and redispensed, the Royal College of Nursing congress has been told.

Medicines waste will be the focus of an RCN investigation that will promote ways to reduce the cost associated with medicines waste after a resolution on the issue was passed with an overwhelming majority of 99.78 per cent.

At the RCN’s annual congress being held in Liverpool this week (10–14 April 2011), Christine Thomas from the RCN Welsh Board called the current level of medicines waste “sheer madness”.
