Remuneration

The Scottish Government circular PCA(P)(2008)17 Additional Pharmaceutical Services Minor Ailment Service and Public Health Service Specifications and Payment Arrangements outlined the changes to funding for MAS from August 2008. It has been agreed with Community Pharmacy Scotland to remove funding from the core (Tier 1 and Tier 2) PHS funding to increase the funding available for the provision of the Minor Ailment Service.

Payment for the Minor Ailment Service is made on a capitation basis calculated on the number of registrations held within the Central Patient Registration System the calculation is carried out on the last day of each month.

From August 2008 the band to be used for payments in any dispensing month will be either the band related to the number of registered patients for that month or the band in force for payment in March 2008 – whichever is higher.
