NHS Lanarkshire PHS Supporting Information
NHS Lanarkshire has recently circulated updated information on the PHS services.

This letter to all contractors provides an update on PHS service implementation in NHS Lanarkshire.

To support audit of CPUS PHS forms contractors are being asked to ensure CPUS forms in Lanarkshire are being marked with the code 999L5.

Smoking Cessation Service
NHS Lanarkshire has now provided a board specific Smoking National Minimum Dataset Form for completion with patients on initiation of the service and at the four week follow-up. These forms should be sent to Anne Buchanan, Secretary to Chief Pharmacist Primary Care, Strathclyde Hospital, Airbles Road, Motherwell ML1 3BW or by secure fax to 01698 245091 when completed.

To help support pharmacists in providing the service the Board have also produced a Client Record form, a referral form to the NHS Lanarkshire Stop Smoking services, guidance on suitable patients for the service and NRT.

Contact details of Smoking Cessation Co-ordinators are also provided.

Sexual Health Service
The NHS Lanarkshire EHC service has now commenced.

Once the pharmacist providing the service has signed the PGD they should use the Levonelle 1500 brand of EHC (POM pack). The EHC should be supplied on a CPUS form. It is not necessary to input the patient's GP's code on the prescription for this service.

The NHS Lanarkshire Chlamydia service has now commenced.

Kits have been distributed to each pharmacy during late November. The kits are designed for a sample to be taken at home and posted in a FREEPOST leak proof container to the lab.  Replacement kits are available on request including on the web at www.lanarkshiresexualhealth.org.

The results will be communicated from the lab to trained health advisers at the Sexual Health Service. Patients with a +ve test for Chlamydia but –ve test for gonorrhea will be offered access to treatment at the community pharmacy of their choice. Patients choosing a community pharmacy will have an initial screening performed to minimise the risk of a patient who is exempted from treatment by the PGD presenting inappropriately at the community pharmacy. The health adviser will also phone the pharmacy to indicate that a patient has opted for treatment there. In addition, the health adviser will initiate partner notification procedures

The patient group direction for using azithromycin for the treatment of Chlamydia is now available. Azithromycin should be prescribed on CPUS forms. It is not necessary to input the patient's GP's code on the prescription for this service. Normal prescription charges (and exemptions) apply

Algorithm has been prepared for the pharmacy service in Lanarkshire and is a guide to pharmacists so they understand what happens next.
