PHS Service Contractor Support Pack
To help support Community Pharmacy contractors prepare for the launch of the new patient PHS services in 2008 Community Pharmacy Scotland produced a contractor support pack to help ensure preparedness for the new services.
The new services are Smoking Cessation and Sexual Health. The pack has been sent to all contractors by post but its contents are also supplied here for ease of access.
Smoking Cessation

The national service specification contains the detail of the service to be delivered.
To claim payment for the patient PHS services a claim form has been produced by PSD. This claim form can be completed electronically and emailed to moira.hanley@nhs.net then printed off and sent hardcopy to Practitioner Services Division for the 7th of every month. Faxes will also be accepted on 0131 275 7532 prior to the hard copy being sent to PSD.
Community Pharmacy Scotland has also produced a checklist for contractors which can be used to support the readiness for delivery of the service.
The national service specification requires contractors to ensure they have a standard operating procedure in place to provide the service. Community Pharmacy Scotland has produced a template Standard Operating Procedure which can be used by contractors to prepare a standard operating procedure.
NHS Boards will provide contractors with a nationally approved minimum dataset form for each patient supported by the service. Each individual NHS Board will also inform contractors of the address these forms must be sent.
Community Pharmacy Scotland has also produced a brief document on the prescribing of Nicotine Replacement Therapy to support contractors. The national service specification also allows the treatment for patients aged 12 and over. To ensure contractors prescribe licensed products a guidance note on prescribing in the 12-15 age group has been produced.
Sexual Health Service

The national service specification contains the detail on the services to be delivered. Information on the payments for sexual health service is available on the Community Pharmacy Scotland website.
