PHS Service – Nicotine Replacement Therapy

Please note that when you claim your PHS NRT fees by returning the PHS claim form to Moira Hanley you are signing that you have also submitted a completed a Smoking National Minimum Dataset forms for HEAT targets to your NHS Board. If you do not submit this form you do not qualify for the £25 per month fee.

NHS Boards have reported that they are struggling to meet their HEAT targets for NRT as the dataset forms are not being returned.

A payment verification study has been carried out to find the percentage of HEAT target forms pharmacists are completing correctly and returning to their NHS Boards as a percentage of the month one claims made for fees for this service.

Figures, for the first three months of last year, show that the percentage varies greatly, from a high of almost 90% to a low of 42%. NHS Boards are now considering removing payment from contractors who claim fees for the service but do not submit their completed minimum dataset forms. The loss of fees would be considerable, particularly in Greater Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Lothian.
